How to play

  1. Roll and move. Each roll lets you move checkers toward your home board; click a checker, then a highlighted point.
  2. Hit and re-enter. Land on a single enemy checker to send it to the bar — a checker on the bar must re-enter before any other move.
  3. Bear off to win. Once all fifteen checkers are in your home board, bear them off. The first player to bear off all fifteen wins.

About Backgammon

Backgammon is one of the oldest board games in the world — a race to bring all fifteen of your checkers around the board and bear them off before your opponent does. Roll the dice and move your checkers toward your home board; the game enforces the rules for you, so you can only make legal moves. Land on a lone enemy checker to send it to the bar, where it must re-enter before anything else can move. Roll doubles and you get four moves instead of two. Once all your checkers reach your home board you can start bearing them off — first to bear off all fifteen wins. The computer plays a greedy strategy, preferring to hit blots, make points and bear off. No signup, no download, nothing uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Roll two dice and move your checkers toward your home board, one die value per move. Bring all fifteen checkers into your home board, then bear them off. The first player to bear off all fifteen checkers wins the game.

Rolling doubles gives you four moves of that number instead of two. For example, double threes lets you make four separate three-point moves.

When you land on a point holding a single enemy checker (a blot), that checker is hit and sent to the bar. A player with a checker on the bar must re-enter it on the opponent’s home board before making any other move.

You can only start bearing off once all fifteen of your checkers are in your home board. You then remove checkers using the dice, with the game enforcing the exact-roll and overshoot rules for you.

This version keeps the core game — dice, hitting, the bar and bear-off — but leaves out the doubling cube to keep play simple and fast. Every move you make is checked for legality.
