Best Free Futoshiki

Fill the Latin-square grid 1 to N with no repeats while every inequality sign holds.

Empty: 0 · Issues: 0

Click a cell, then type a number. Fill the grid so every row and column holds each number from 1 to N exactly once. The signs between cells must stay true — the open side of a “<”, “>”, “∧” or “∨” always points to the larger number.

How to play

  1. Select a cell. Click (or tap) a blank cell to select it. The given numbers are fixed and can’t be changed.
  2. Enter a number. Type a digit from 1 to the grid size, or use the number pad below the grid. Backspace or 0 clears the cell.
  3. Honour the signs. Fill every row and column with no repeats so that each inequality sign points from the smaller number to the larger.

About Futoshiki

Futoshiki — Japanese for inequality — is a Latin-square logic puzzle. Fill the grid so that every row and every column contains each number from 1 to the grid size exactly once, just like a small Sudoku with no boxes. The twist is the inequality signs sitting between some cells: the open side of each sign always points to the larger number, and every one of them must stay true. A handful of numbers are given to start; the rest you deduce. Each puzzle is generated fresh from a valid solution. No signup, no download, nothing uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Fill the grid so that every row and column holds each number from 1 to the grid size exactly once, with no repeats. The inequality signs between some cells must also hold — the open side always points to the larger of the two numbers it sits between.

A sign between two neighbouring cells tells you which one is bigger. The wide, open end always faces the larger number, so a sign pointing left means the right cell is larger.

Yes. Each puzzle is generated from a complete, valid grid, so a consistent solution always exists and can be reached by logic — combining the no-repeat rule with the inequality signs.

Difficulty sets the grid size: easy is 4×4, normal is 5×5 and hard is 6×6. A bigger grid means more numbers, more inequalities and more deduction.

Select the cell and press Backspace, Delete or 0, or tap Erase. Any number that repeats in its row or column, or any sign that is broken, is highlighted.
