How to play
- Hop diagonally. Use the arrow keys or the on-screen buttons to jump diagonally between cubes — up goes up-right, right goes down-right, down goes down-left and left goes up-left.
- Change every cube. Each cube you land on changes its top to the target colour. Turn every cube on the pyramid to clear the level.
- Stay on the pyramid. Don’t hop off the edge and avoid the falling balls and the chaser — every miss costs you one of your three lives.
About Q*bert
Q*bert is the classic isometric arcade hopper. You control a little orange character perched on a pyramid of cubes, and you can only move one way — diagonally, from cube to cube. Every cube you land on flips its top to the target colour, and your job is to change the whole pyramid before a bouncing red ball (or, on hard, a relentless purple chaser) catches you. The catch: hop off the edge of the pyramid and you fall to your doom. Clear every cube to advance a level, where the enemies get faster. You get three lives and your score climbs with every cube you change. No signup.
Frequently asked questions
Q*bert only moves diagonally. Use the arrow keys or the buttons to hop from cube to cube — up is up-right, right is down-right, down is down-left and left is up-left. Every cube you land on changes colour; change them all to clear the level.
Land on every cube of the pyramid so that each one’s top is flipped to the target colour. Once the whole pyramid is the target colour the level is cleared and the next, faster level begins.
You lose a life two ways: hopping clean off the edge of the pyramid, or getting caught by a falling ball or the chaser. Plan each diagonal hop so you always land on a real cube and keep your distance from the enemies.
The red balls spawn at the top and bounce down the pyramid — touch one and you lose a life. On the hard setting a purple chaser also hunts you across the cubes, so you have to keep moving.
You start with three lives. You lose one each time you fall off the edge or get hit by an enemy, and the game ends when all three are gone. Your best score is saved locally in your browser.
