How to play

  1. Place a tan. Tap a piece to select it, then drag it into the grey target outline; pieces snap to the grid when you let go.
  2. Rotate and flip. Use Rotate to turn the selected piece in 45-degree steps, and Flip to mirror it — useful for fitting the parallelogram.
  3. Fill the silhouette. Cover the whole outline with all seven tans, with no gaps and no overlaps, to solve the shape and move on to the next.

About Tangram

Tangram is the ancient Chinese shape puzzle made of seven flat pieces — the tans: five triangles of three sizes, a square and a parallelogram. Together they always add up to the same area, and the challenge is to arrange all seven, with no gaps and no overlaps, to fill a given outline. You drag each piece into the grey silhouette, rotate it in 45-degree turns and flip the parallelogram when a shape needs its mirror image. Every target here is built from a real arrangement of the seven tans, so each one can genuinely be filled. No signup, no download.

Frequently asked questions

Tap a tan to select it, drag it into the grey silhouette, and use the Rotate and Flip buttons to turn or mirror it. Arrange all seven pieces so they cover the outline exactly, with no gaps and nothing sticking out.

The seven tans are two large triangles, one medium triangle, two small triangles, a square and a parallelogram. They always cover the same total area, which is why a full silhouette uses every piece.

The parallelogram is the only piece that is not the same as its mirror image, so some shapes can only be completed once you flip it. Rotating turns a piece in 45-degree steps; flipping mirrors it.

When the seven pieces cover the whole grey outline with no gaps or overlap, the shape is complete and you advance to the next one. Every target is built from a real layout of the tans, so it can always be filled.

There are several target silhouettes that get more involved, and solving one moves you to the next. The difficulty setting picks which shape you start from — Easy on the simplest, Hard on the trickiest.
