About this typing test
This typing test measures how fast and how accurately you type. A passage appears on screen; start typing it and the timer begins on your first keystroke. Correct letters turn green and mistakes turn red as you go, so you can see exactly where you slipped. When you finish the passage - or the 60-second clock runs out - you get your words-per-minute (WPM) and accuracy score. Pick a difficulty to practise simple words, full sentences or tricky punctuation and numbers. Your best WPM is saved locally in your browser. No signup, no download, nothing uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
Words per minute uses the standard of five characters per word: your number of correctly typed characters is divided by five, then divided by the minutes elapsed. Only correct characters count, so accuracy directly affects your WPM.
Accuracy is the percentage of the characters you typed that match the passage. If you type 200 characters and 196 are correct, your accuracy is 98%.
Around 40 WPM is average, 60-70 WPM is solid for office work, and 90+ WPM is fast. More important than raw speed is keeping accuracy above 95% - errors cost more time than they save.
Easy uses short, common lowercase words; Normal uses full natural sentences; Hard adds capitalisation, punctuation, numbers and symbols that are harder to type cleanly.
