Frequently asked questions
Words per minute uses the standard of five characters per word: your number of correctly typed characters is divided by five, then divided by the minutes elapsed. Only correct characters count, so accuracy directly affects your WPM.
Accuracy is the percentage of the characters you typed that match the passage. If you type 200 characters and 196 are correct, your accuracy is 98%.
Around 40 WPM is average, 60–70 WPM is solid for office work, and 90+ WPM is fast. More important than raw speed is keeping accuracy above 95% — errors cost more time than they save.
