Best Free War

The classic luck-only card game — flip, higher card wins, ties spark a war. Race to capture all 52.

The deck is dealt into two equal piles. Each flip turns up the top card from each pile — the higher rank (aces high) wins both cards. A tie means war: each side buries cards face down and flips again, and the winner sweeps the whole pile. Keep flipping until one side holds every card.

How to play

  1. Flip the top cards. Press Flip and both you and the computer turn over your top card at the same time.
  2. Higher card wins both. The higher rank takes both cards (aces are high). They go to the bottom of the winner’s pile.
  3. Ties mean war. If the cards match, each side buries cards face down and flips again — the higher card sweeps the whole stack. Keep flipping until one side holds all 52.

About War

War is the simplest card game of all — pure luck, no decisions, endlessly satisfying. The deck is shuffled and split into two equal piles, one for you and one for the computer. Each round you both flip your top card, and whoever turns the higher card (aces are high) wins both. Flip two equal cards and it’s “war”: each side buries a few cards face down as stakes and flips a fresh card, with the higher one sweeping the whole pile — and if those tie again, the war just keeps going. There’s nothing to strategise; you simply press Flip and watch the cards swing back and forth until one player has captured all 52. No signup.

Frequently asked questions

The 52-card deck is split evenly between you and the computer. Each round both players flip their top card and the higher rank wins both cards, which move to the bottom of the winner’s pile. You just press Flip each time — there are no choices to make.

A tie triggers a “war.” Each side places a few cards face down as stakes, then flips one more card face up. The higher of those new cards wins the entire pile. If they tie again, another war begins on top of the first.

Aces are high — they’re the strongest card and beat everything except another ace, which would start a war. The ranking runs from 2 (lowest) up through the face cards to the ace (highest).

None at all — War is a pure game of chance decided entirely by how the deck was shuffled. That’s the appeal: it needs no skill or decisions, so it’s great for young children or a quick mindless break.

It varies with the shuffle. Many games resolve in a few minutes, but a run of wars can stretch things out. Here each battle, including any wars, resolves with a single Flip, so it moves along quickly.
