About this tool

Record your voice straight from your microphone without installing an app. Press start and your browser captures the mic to a compact WebM/Opus file using the built-in MediaRecorder, with a live timer ticking while you talk. Because the audio is assembled on your own device, the recording is never uploaded, so voice notes, memos and narration stay private to your machine. When you stop, the clip appears in an audio player you can play back and download. In Advanced options you can pick a different recording format when your browser supports one.

What people use it for

  • Capture a quick voice memo or note
  • Record narration or a voiceover
  • Save an audio message without installing an app
  • Practice a speech and play it back

Frequently asked questions

No. The audio is captured and assembled entirely in your browser, so it stays on your device — there is no server involved, which is the point of a private recorder.

By default a WebM file with Opus audio, which is small and high quality. In Advanced options you can choose another format, such as Ogg or MP4, if your browser supports it.

Recording needs access to your mic, so the browser prompts you to allow it. If you deny it, nothing is recorded and the tool tells you how to re-enable access.

There is no fixed limit; the length is bounded only by your device’s available memory, since the whole clip is held locally until you download it.

All modern browsers — Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge. If a browser lacks the recording API, the tool shows a clear message rather than failing.

Yes — a client-side tool with no account, no watermark and nothing stored on a server.
